How to install a license on ALEXA

  • Copy the purchased license key from the computer to an SD card. The license file (suffix .lic) to be installed must be located on the SD card in the correct folder (ARRI > ALEXA > Licenses).
  • Once this SD card is inserted into the camera, push the MENU button and navigate to SYSTEM > FIRMWARE > LICENSED FEATURES.
  • Push the soft button INSTALL. In the next screen use the jog wheel to select the license you want to install, then push down on the jog wheel to choose that file and initiate the license key installation.
  • Now the license key has been installed and will remain in the camera even when the SD card is removed. We recommend removing the SD card containing the license key to avoid unwanted copying of the license key by others. The SD card should be kept in a safe and secure place.
  • The license key can be removed from the camera at any time by pushing the MENU button and navigating to SYSTEM > FIRMWARE > LICENSED FEATURES > DELETE. The SD card containing the license key does not have to be in the camera for this. The license key can be re-installed at a later time using the steps above.
  • A list of all installed license keys is available by pushing the MENU button and navigating to SYSTEM > FIRMWARE > LICENSED FEATURES.
  • Installed license keys will remain present in the camera when the camera is upgraded to a Software Update Packet higher than 4.0 (for the Anamorphic De-squeeze license key) or 5.0 (for the High Speed license key). Installed license keys will remain in the camera as well when it is downgraded to a Software Update Packet below version 4.0 or 5.0, however, you will not be able to use the respective feature of the license key. It will become visible again when the camera is upgraded to a packet of version 4.0 or 5.0.
